Rules of Stress in Frangléi

Stress is on:

  1. The final syllable for:
    1. Singular forms and past tense (-a) of verbs.
    2. Adjectives, except when final syllable= ends in a vowel.
    3. Impersonal nouns, except when final sy= llable ends in a vowel.
    4. Nouns ending in  -al, -el, -er, -ic, -iq, -iſm, -iſt, -ment, and –ry.
    5. Syllables in which the vowel is accent= ed, either acute [´] or grave [`], though use of the grave accent is relatively rare.
  2. The penultimate (next to last) syllable= for:
    1. Nouns and adjectives where final sylla= ble ends in a vowel, including all personal nouns not in the neuter gende= r.
    2. Plural forms of verbs.
    3. Nouns ending in -age, -ion, and -tom.
  3. Equal stress on two final syllables
    1. Words ending in two vowels, such as filii and créé.
  4. The first syllable for:
    1. Adverbs
    2. When first syllable shows comparison or quality (such as maxim-, bon-, or male-).
    3. Numbers
    4. Units of measure and the word hundr= eð.
    5. Months of the French Revolutionary Cal= endar.
    6. Nouns ending in –rut.
